Bryant visits Caledonia, runs from public

In a historic first, Aboriginal affairs minister Michael Bryant visited Caledonia today. After only 20 months, the Liberal party finally sent a representative to town. The only problem with this is he avoided residents like the plague.

With his arrival scheduled for 9:30am, a group of residents and interested parties gathered to meet and greet the minister only to be turned away and treated like dirt by security set up at the arena. The sight of such a horrible thing as residents wanting to speak to a government official quickly resulted in the OPP standing guard over the arena door and checking to ensure that only accredited media entered.

Mr. Bryant was late and was gracious enough to spend all of 60 seconds explaining to the crowd that he won’t be talking to them today and that they could put their name on a list with his assistant in the hopes that he will one day call them.

After quickly explaining that he would talk to people eventually, he dodged the simple question from Gary McHale of why did Dalton McGuinty recently state that nobody has been seriously injured in Caledonia (which is a slap in the face of Sam Gualtieri) and hastened his pace into the building.

Despite a request from Mayor Trainer, Haldimand Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett was refused entry to the top secret meeting, but he came anyway to spend some quality time answering questions and hearing the concerns of his constituents while Bryant snuck out a side door to head for lunch with a few hand picked residents.

The new CAO of Haldimand County Donald Boyle hinted to the crowd that the Liberals may be about to start throwing money around to appease everyone, and Mayor Trainer joined Toby Barrett in speaking with her constituents.

All in all it was a showing very fitting of the McGuinty government, and it will be interesting to see if Mr. Bryant follows up on his commitment to speak with residents in the near future.

Video is available at Be sure to note the OPP officer standing in the way of Toby Barrett entering the arena as it’s a very telling sign of how the re-elected Liberals intend to deal with anyone who dares to question their incompetence.

All I can say to those who witnessed this first hand is:

Welcome to the “NEW” Democracy…secret meetings, close door “negotiations”, no records or minutes kept, collaborations by invitation only, police and security muscle to control public dissent….basically the soviet system with more lawyers and “facilitators” on the pay roll.

McGuinty and Bryant have pioneered this new soviet-styled statism in this province and created an inaccessible political elite class….even Duffer Harris confronted his critics publicly on a regular basis.

The denial of inclusion in this meeting didn’t surprise me at all..or the fraudulent promise at inclusion to brush off dissenters…all seem par for fabian autocrats.

Wat surprided me were 2 things I thought were telling of an autocracy with no shame to even hide their contempt for populist civil democracy.

    1) Denial of inclusion of the riding’s MPP in the meeting, thus disregarding the authority of the mayor in her own jurisdiction

    2) The need for a list of “names” from dissenters….you know what that would get you….and it won’t be an audience with his holiness.

    3) why were the local church officials invited to this pow wow?

Nope…I read all the media accounts watched the videos and read the blogs…and it appears that nothing will change…..Bryant has been sent in to legitimize a stale mate and create another long seige like Ipperwash….except this time ignoring native lawlessness will get some non native resident killed or injured…and isn’t that what both side of the “negotiating table” would rather have?

I think I can answer the question about church officials. A few people left the meeting with a map to a local church that Bryant was rumored to be heading for. Possibly for his big lunch with a few token hand picked Liberal supporting residents.

One thing I think is worth noting in the video is how very calm, friendly, and cooperative our group was until pushed a bit too far by these security guards who were playing secret service agent for the day.

One resident made a valiant effort to sneak in as media but was caught and very aggressively told to get lost. As she tried to argue her case, the hotshot guard kept loudly saying to her “bye bye.. bye bye”
